Va Piano honors Father Bruno by opening new tasting room

A Va Piano Vineyards tasting room that serves as a tribute to owner and winemaker Justin Wylie’s mentor, Father Bruno Segatta is planned for an August opening.

Bruno’s by Va Piano is a new concept for the winery. The space at 109 E. Main St., known for a number of years as home to Sinclair Estate Vineyards, will incorporate art, wine and music in a spot where guests can relax and linger.

It joins Va Piano’s lineup of tasting rooms in Bend’s Old Mill District, the historic Davenport Hotel in Spokane and the estate winery on Walla Walla’s southside.

“Opening Bruno’s tasting room

has been a dream of mine for a long time,” Wylie said in the announcement.

The space will be a tribute to Segatta as a celebration of food-friendly wines for friends and family to enjoy every day, he said.

“We look forward to welcoming old and new friends in for a glass or bottle of wine, experience Bruno’s art and listen to some great local music,” he said.

Wylie met Segatta while spending a year in Florence, Italy, during college at Gonzaga University.

It was on a train to Cinque Terre where the two came up with the idea of making a wine that celebrates daily meals with family and friends.

The tasting room will showcase the Bruno wines made by Va Piano, plus the winery’s pinot grigio, rose, syrah and cabernet sauvignon.

Local musical performances will take place on weekends and special events.

The 100-capacity tasting room is designed by Christy Bloom Interior Design, incorporating Segatta’s paintings into the space set off by warm woods, custom and cozy seating areas and fireplace.

An outdoor patio space is also offered, the announcement explained. Space for private events is available, too. General manager for the space is Derri Reid. The operation will offer a Friends of Bruno’s wine club. Memberships are available. -Union Bulletin, 06/04/2019
